Salem Radio Network – Home of Bennett, Gallagher, Medved and Hewitt — is ‘100% Carbon Neutral’

May 11, 2014

The Salem Radio Network responded to the White House National Climate Assessment released last week by saying that its program was 100 percent carbon neutral, a way of mocking some of the hysteria promoted in the Obama administration that predicted massive floods, massive droughts, disease and other problems around the corner if drastic action is not taken.

From The Washington Times:

Tom Tradup, the station’s vice president of news and talk programming, said listening to carbon-neutral radio programming “may be the most important step Americans can take if they believe in the White House’s dire predictions.”

“We have determined, through an independent source, that SRN programming (including our talk shows and 24/7 newscasts) is, in fact, 100% carbon neutral and will not increase the carbon footprint of either radio stations carrying our programming or listeners who enjoy it,” Mr. Tradup said. “Essentially, listening to SRN creates a neutral or zero impact on the environment , in total compliance with White House guidelines.”

Salem has a stable of top talk radio talent Bill Bennett, Mike Gallagher, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt.

Final Nail in the Coffin Just Nailed for Fairness Doctrine

May 11, 2014

Sure, the dreadful Fairness Doctrine has been gone as a government regulation since the 1980s. But one last remnant of the ridiculous, speech stifling rule remained until this week, as explained by Radio World. The FCC rejected two challenges to radio license that were made under the “Zapple Doctrine.”

“The Zapple Doctrine required that broadcast stations that give air time to the supporters of one candidate in an election give time to the supporters of competing candidates as well, according to Wilkinson Barker Knauer attorney David Oxenford. And, even though the Fairness Doctrine has been defunct for years, various manifestations have reappeared at times, he blogs,” Radio World said.

FEC Going After Talk Radio

May 11, 2014

The Federal Elections Commission Chairman Lee E. Goodman doesn’t like it. But, he said federal government officials are pushing for his agency to go after conservative media such as talk radio and conservative internet sites.

Sean HannityThe Washington Examiner story specifically mentioned Sean Hannity and Matt Drudge. But if the media exemption for federal election laws are done away with for certain media, it would be a devastating blow to talk radio.

“I think that there are impulses in the government every day to second guess and look into the editorial decisions of conservative publishers,” Goodman told the Washington Examiner. “The right has begun to break the left’s media monopoly, particularly through new media outlets like the internet, and I sense that some on the left are starting to rethink the breadth of the media exemption and internet communications.”

Lifting the media exemption on conservative outlets – or any media outlet – would treat a radio show, Internet site, magazine or newspaper as a political action committee that is subject to regulation by the government. That would undercut the basic First Amendment right to freedom of the press.

This is not new. In the 1960s the Kennedy administration launched an assault using the government to go after conservative talk radio. This was accelerated by the Johnson administration in what was called the “challenge and harass” strategy.

Glenn Beck Explains Truth Behind Common Core in New Book

May 11, 2014

The Common Core State Standards are analyzed in a thorough, understandable way in Glenn Beck’s new book “Conform: Exposing the Truth About Common Core and Public Education.”

From the book description:

It’s not a coincidence that the more the federal government has inserted itself into public education over the years, the worse our kids have fared. Washington dangles millions of dollars in front of states and then tells them what they have to do to get it. It’s backdoor nationalization of education—and it’s leading us to ruin.

Monica Lewinsky and Talk Radio’s Road to Impeachment

May 11, 2014

The reemergence of Monica Lewinsky last week with the Vanity Fair essay, “Shame and Survival,” prompted plenty of chatter on talk radio, as it sounded like a throwback to the 1990s hearing Rush Limbaugh explain the entire scandal was not about sex but about perjury and corruption in the White House.

“They’re discarded after being used. And if they dare speak up at the wrong time and the wrong place, they get destroyed not just discarded. There’s Hillary. Monica Lewinsky is making the point that it was Hillary blaming all the women that were involved, including her. Lewinsky, she says she considered suicide. So Hillary and Bill… I mean, War on Women?” Rush said.

The Right Frequency explains “radio’s road to impeachment” in Chapter 8, detailing how Limbaugh, G. Gordon Liddy and other talkers fanned the flames and built public pressure that ultimately led to the House impeaching President Bill Clinton.

Limbaugh: Obama Makes U.S. Seem Powerless in Boko Haram Kidnapping

May 11, 2014

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the White House weekend address about the more than 200 kidnapped Nigerian school girls by the terrorist Boko Haram.

But this past week, Rush Limbaugh ripped the administration for its failure to do anything meaningful on the matter.

“The most powerful man in the world looks impotent and pathetic and then so does this country when the twitter hashtag becomes the instrument here,” Limbaugh said.

He added, “It’s unbelievable…what message does this send?” he said. “Is the United States really this powerless? And then if you answer yes, we are really this powerless, then isn’t Obama to blame?”

Limbaugh typically is critical of the Obama administration, so much so that the White House once developed a strategy to target Limbaugh as the “leader of the Republican party,” as detailed in The Right Frequency.

Newsmax reported:

James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and Family Talk Radio, a harsh critic of President Obama and an opponent in court, on Thursday described him as the “abortion president” during an address at the National Day of Prayer.

Dobson, whose organization recently won a court fight against Obama over a mandate in Obamacare that would have required his ministry to pay for abortion pills, has not been shy about challenging the president on his abortion agenda.

At one point during the fight over the imposition of the abortion mandate, he said to the president: “Come and get me. I will not yield to your wicked regulations.”
