Boortz Shuns Friendly Radio, Says ‘Listeners Want to be Entertained’
Neal Boortz, in an interview with Radio Ink, explained why a trend toward “friendlier” radio will not work. The always animated Boortz, on the air for more than four decades, says listeners want entertainment above all, and in some cases, entertainment includes confrontation.
“It’s a great sales pitch to get people to sign on to your show. I still think what the consumers are looking for is, number one, entertainment, Boortz said. “They want to be entertained. It can be a liberal, a libertarian, or a conservative. It can be far-left or far-right. If they are entertained, they are going to tune in. The ratings are going to be there and the advertisers are going to be happy.”
Boortz, who was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame, has had an amazing career that is featured in Chapter 4 of The Right Frequency, to be released in August. You can pre-order now at a 30% discount.
